Volunteer Wish List

Would you like to get more involved? Do you have a few hours a week or per month or for a specific project to help? An hour or two lending a hand toward a project or just doing some filing can really make a huge difference over time.

Below is a list of NEEDS. Please contact SCA if you are willing and able to help out. You can call Betsy Daley at 610-917-0021 or email her at schuylkillcanal@mindspring.com with your availability, whatever you are able to give in time and know-how will be appreciated.

Outdoor activities:
Green Thumbs needed for the Lock 60 Garden Club – a willing group of garden enthusiasts is needed to provide their expertise in the overall care of the gardens at Lock 60. If you have knowledge of herbs and native plants or are willing to learn, please join the Club on Nov. 15th at 10 AM, during our Fall Clean Up, see the enclosed flyer for details, to get started.

Carpenters needed - A scaled down version of the Lock 60 information kiosk needs to be built at the lower end of the canal in Port Providence. Over the winter, volunteers will work on the plans, gather materials, build the frame and do all the needed preparations to install the kiosk by March 2004.

Indoor or at home activities:
Graphic Artist needed – to help to create eye catching displays that will be posted on the two information kiosks and produce informational materials for publicity purposes.

Newsletter Editor needed – to help develop and layout the Association’s newsletter. This needs to be done on a quarterly basis.

Archivist or Record Keeper needed – to help develop and maintain archival files.

Historic Researcher needed – to help by visiting local historical societies and libraries to gather information for historic documentation and resource development.

Event Planner needed – to help plan and coordinate the various programs and special events presented by the Association through the year.

Fundraiser/Grant writer needed – to help research and write grants to acquire the necessary funds to continue to grow and enhance the Schuylkill Canal Recreation Area.
