We are patting ourselves on the back!
SCA is proud to announce that we have received four grants within the past three months:

The Bard Foundation, $8,000 to be used as the 25% match to a $26,000 PA Heritage Park Program grant applied for this past spring. Both grants combined will fund an interpretation plan that will be developed for the Lock 60 area. Upon completion of the lock restoration, the Association will need to be ready to provide an accurate historical interpretation of the lock and the locktender's life. This will help us to prepare for that.

  • Department of Environmental Protection, Growing Greener Grant Program, $15,000 to fund the Hydrology Study that will be completed on the overall Schuylkill Canal Watershed. This funding will provide the bulk of the money needed to complete a comprehensive look at the watershed, its storm water management, and water inflows and outflows that have a direct impact on the immediate watershed. The study has a price tag of $17,000 - SCA members will make up the difference.

  • The Lockheed Martin Corporation - Employee Community Service Fund, $500 to partially fund the purchase of a gas-powered 1000 HP generator. Throughout the year, usually during our community events, we are in need of electricity in areas that do not have electrical service. This funding will provide at least half the cost for the generator.

  • The Phoenixville Community Health Foundation, $10,000 to help fund the construction costs associated with the handicapped accessible restrooms to be installed in our maintenance garage.

SCA has applied to the PA Dept. of Community and Economic Development grant program for a portion of the needed $65,000 for construction. The Arcadia Foundation and the Beatty Trust have also given grants for this project.
