The Schuylkill Canal Association (SCA) and the Phoenix Iron Canal & Trail Association (PICTA) will be celebrating the beginning of fall with one of our annual favorites – the Music Festival at Lock 60.

On Sunday, September 15th, from 1 to 5 PM, music lovers can gather in the Lock 60 picnic grove to listen to the five groups that will be on center stage strumming their instruments to the delight of the crowd. At the same time, refreshments - hot dogs, soda, water and snacks - will be available to purchase in the picnic grove. Be sure to bring a blanket or chair to sit on while you enjoy the afternoon under the tree canopy at Lock 60.

A new feature this year in addition to the Music Fest will be a canoe/kayak float that will happen from 11 AM to 5 PM in September 15th. Our friends from PICTA will conduct a paddle along the Schuylkill Canal Water Trail Loop. Bring your boat to leisurely float down the river and back up the canal to Lock 60, enjoying the beauty of both. There will be clowns, remote controlled boats, kayak demos, and other activities throughout the day. Be sure to bring the necessary PFDs and whistle along with your own boat.

All the while the Locktender’s House will be open to visitors from 1 to 5PM. Some light refreshments will be offered along with a little bit about the history of the Schuylkill Navigation System.

Visitors of all ages are welcome to come and enjoy the afternoon. SCA does not charge an admission fee; we are a non-profit organization that accepts tax-deductible donations from our members, sponsors and visitors who enjoy our programs. Our programs are fun and exciting and at the same time very interesting because you usually go away learning about the history of your community.
