The Schuylkill Canal Towpath Restoration Project Information

The Schuylkill Canal Towpath Restoration project is underway. Together with Upper Providence Township and the Schuylkill Canal Association, Montgomery County's Planning Commission and Parks & Heritage Services is coordinating this important and unique restoration project that will further protect and preserve the Schuylkill Canal in Upper Providence Township.

Starting in March 2008 Campbell Thomas & Co, design consultants, and Urban Engineers, Inc. will begin the work involved with restoring the historic towpath from Longford Road in Port Providence north to Rt. 29 in Mont Clare.

Included in this work will be developing the design plans and completing the pre-construction engineering.  This first phase is expected to be completed by early spring 2009.  Cconstruction implementation is anticipated to begin in the spring 2009 and will take approximately one year to complete.

To keep informed and watch the progress as it is happening, visit Montgomery County's webpage, Schuylkill River Trail, for all the updates and important information about this project and all that is happening along the Schuylkill River Trail.
